This is the online home for CultureSource. We are a professional association comprised of 115+ organizations serving the region as nonprofit enterprises for the arts and culture.
We work to advance the missions and works of each of our members by helping them connect with new people and audiences, with each other, and with new opportunities.
From now until April 22, anyone and everyone can submit ideas for art in Detroit to the Knight Challenge. It's not your usual grant program – far from it! You don't need a budget, or even a project plan. You don't have to have lots of collaborators lined up, or the staff team selected. All you need is a really great idea that is about art and will happen in or benefit Detroit. That's it. Think about the matching funds later. All you have to do now is to come up with a really great idea and describe it in 150 words or less.
This is an "if only" moment. Those don't come along very often. How many times do we dream about what we would like to do, "if only" we had the funding, or "if only" you had the freedom to try? What is the performance of your dreams? Is there an exhibition you have always wanted to do? If you are an independent artist, or a business owner, or a nonprofit, what is the most ambitious, craziest, most innovative project you would like to do? How can your art idea be part of the excitement that is Detroit these days – amidst all the EM controversy, the city debt issues, a new city is arising like a Phoenix. Dan Gilbert's investment in Detroit is amazing, and he is not alone. There are new stores, new restaurants and bars, more and more great places to hang out. How could art reach into Detroit neighborhoods and inspire the people living there? Art is transformative. This is your chance to make it happen.
