The inbox overfloweth with sales announcements, television commercials are urging you to “buy one, get one free,” and Black Friday deals have extended long past their traditional one-day-only specials. All of this is enough to put even the most gleeful of shoppers off from purchasing holiday gifts this season, but fear not! There are still plenty of spots to buy gifts crafted by local artists and artisans for everyone on your list.

Skip the mall—there’s no better place to buy original ornaments, scarves, jewelry, ceramics, artwork, handcrafted toys, and maybe a baked good or two, than at these local shops.2015 PCCA Holiday Art Market vertorn web

Other favorite spots for purchasing clever gifts include museum gift shops (both in person and online) at the University of Michigan Museum of Art, the DIA, Michigan Science Center (they’re currently selling “Sue-venirs” from A T. rex Named Sue), and MOCAD.

And if the pre-Thanksgiving snow has already got you down, but you're still searching for that perfect Detroit-based gift, Pewabic has their entire "Handcrafted for the Holidays" giftware line on their website—purchase original Detroit ornaments, tiles and mugs without leaving home.
