As you prepare the turkey and await the snow, it’s time to get a jump start on this year’s holiday shopping. While most of our daily purchases now occur online—with a click of a button followed by the ringing doorbell—there’s nothing like buying local, one-of-a-kind gifts in real life for the holidays.

At the Detroit Institute of Arts, head to the shop at the end of the Bitter|Sweet: Coffee, Tea & Chocolate exhibit (November 20-March 5) for beverages created just for museum patrons—Eli’s Tea, Great Lakes Coffee and Mindo Chocolate Makers have each crafted a proprietary blend of their signature drink available only at the museum shop.

Art centers are always a favorite to find jewelry, ornaments, scarves and handcrafted toys by local artisans. The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center’s annual holiday shop runs from December 1-22; Christmas Market 2016: Peace at the Anton Art Center in Mt. Clemens opens November 18th and runs through December 23rd; Detroit Artists Market Art for the Holidays runs on through the holidays, closing December 30th; and Paint Creek Center for the Arts Holiday Art Market 2016 is open through December 23rd in Rochester.

Need a card for all of these goodies? The handmade print studio at Signal-Return in Eastern Market is your one-stop shop for original holiday paper goods.

And remember, the gift of museum membership is the gift that keeps on giving all year long! Memberships often include exclusive and early access to special events and exhibits, as well as discounts at the aforementioned shops. The Henry Ford is running a Black Friday Membership Offer for new members from November 25-28, with membership rates at 30 percent off. PaintCreekPhoto courtesy of Paint Creek Center for the Arts
