National Endowment for the Arts' National Council Meeting

The National Endowment for the Arts will hold its 197th meeeting of the Council on the Arts, its advisory body, on Friday, June 21, 2019 in Detroit, Michigan. This meeting is free and open to the public and will feature official welcomes by state and local leaders, presentations on the arts in Michigan communities, and performances by local artists.

9:00-9:30am: Registration, coffee, networking

9:30-11:30am: 

  • Welcomes and council business:
    • Mary Anne Carter, acting chairman, National Endowment for the Arts
    • Omari Rush, executive director, CultureSource
    • Alison Watson, director, Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs
    • Neil Barclay, president and CEO, The Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History
  • Performances and presentations by:
    • Satori Shakoor, storyteller and founder of The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers
    • El Ballet Folklórico Estudantil
    • Alissa Novoselick, executive director of Living Arts and Sterling Toles, artist and teaching artist at Living Arts Detroit
    • Belinda Tate, executive director at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts
    • Youth ensemble members of Mosaic Youth Theatre 
  • Closing remarks 

This event is presented in partnership with the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.

Parking is available in the DIA Museum Parking Lot on John R for a flat rate of $7 and metered street parking is available on the following streets: Brush, Farnsworth, Warren, and Frederick.
