Sonya Belaya is a Russian-American musician based in metro Detroit, performing contemporary, improvised and classical music. The program curated for this event celebrates women pianist-composers, featuring Monica Pearceʼs Damask for toy piano and tabla, Phyllis Chenʼs haunting Columba for piano and shadow box, and Kelly Moranʼs acclaimed prepared piano suite Bloodroot (New York Times Best Classical Recordings 2017).

The performance of Bloodroot is a featured collaboration with Detroit-based dancers Lisa LaMarre and Rachael Ahn Harbert. The program also includes improvisational work People In The Home by Detroit-based pianist-composer Michael Malis, Pascal LeBouefʼs energetic piano trio Obliquely Wrecked, and Christopher Cerroneʼs emotional narrative Double Happiness.
