Job Description:

Administrative oversight of the Programs and Enrichment Department.  Responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction in developing and implementing innovative, high-quality educational programs, classes, and activities including personal and professional enrichment, career enhancement, health and fitness, and special offerings that meet the needs of the community and are in line with the budgeted goals and mission of the organization.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the following functions relative to educational programming:
    • Complete departmental budget oversight – annual budget of nearly 1 million.
    • Analyzes programs and expenses relative to revenue, cost and community interest and impact.
    • Determines community interests and needs, and plans educational programs accordingly.
    • Plans the overall scheduling of class terms and production schedules.
    • Schedules dates, times and sets fees for classes.
    • Plans and organizes mailings and other site distributions of catalogs.
    • Oversees student registration and data base operations.
    • Researches, plans, budgets, and implements additional special programming and events based upon community interest and resources available.
    • Analyzes monthly financial results and adjusts forecast accordingly.
    • Reviews, assesses, and monitors student database management systems for current and future success.
    • Ensures staff is properly trained and procedures in place for student database management.
    • Evaluates effectiveness of programs offered consistent with the mission of The Community House.
    • Oversees special programs including the Dance Academy, 21st Century Leaders, and the Sarah Smith Youth Theater. 
    • Keeps abreast of other programs offered in the area and assures competitiveness within the field.
    • Oversees the administration of nearly 200 program instructor (Independent Contractor) agreements.
    • Responsible for providing and ensuring that all department employees and contract staff meet The Community House standards, quality and level of customer service.
    • Acts as outside TCH Program Ambassador to community, civic and business organizations.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops promotional material for programs/classes.
  • Oversees special program/class flyers, tickets and other print materials for programs.
  • Reviews and recommends equipment needs relative to programs.
  • Assists in the marketing of all Community House programs.
  • Assists with evening and weekend programs as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises Program Administrator Staff, Dance Academy Coordinator, 21st Century Leaders Director, Sara Smith Theatre Productions Co-Directors, and summer camp staff.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, supervision, evaluation, discipline and termination of Program employees.
  • Relationship-building duties associated with all Program contract teachers.
  • Employee and Public Contact:
  • Frequent contact with class participants, parents, and teachers.     
  • Daily interaction with all members of the Program Department.
  • Daily interaction with other departments at The Community House including Office of the President, Communications, Business Services, Hospitality, Development, Accounting, and Human Resources.
  • Works to increase The Community House presence in the arts and cultural community, general nonprofit community, civic and business community via community engagement and outreach.
  • Handle difficult customers and stakeholders on a daily basis

Working Schedule:

  • General office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours which includes some evenings and weekends to attend meetings, TCH programs, attend special program events, and assist at other TCH sponsored activities and events, as needed.
  • Occasionally travels offsite for meetings and events.

Preferred Skills:


  • Undergraduate Degree. Graduate Degree a plus.
  • 1-3 years education management (schools, camp, extra-curricular education).
  • Experience managing a complex staff.
  • Non-profit experience desired. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid phone and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong community relations and networking skills.
  • Ability to market the services of The Community House.
  • Strong financial background with the ability to create and manage department budget.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Strong project management and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to handle numerous events simultaneously while maintaining a pleasant receptive demeanor.
  • Computer experience with working knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn internal software programs.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to define problems, to gather relevant facts, and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Strong customer relations and conflict resolution skills.
