Job Description:

The Scarab Club of Detroit is seeking an enthusiastic and highly organized Events Manager. The ideal candidate will display a passion for the arts and culture sector, have a strong track record in sales and a solid background in event delivery and logistics. They will be proactive, hard working and able to work under their own initiative. Abilities to multitask and prioritize are essential in overseeing private event sales and execution. The Events Manager’s main objective is to generate income from events in order to support the Scarab Club’s charitable activities.

Event Manager Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Receive, handle and convert event inquires.
  • Ensure complete administration and execution of planned private events.
  • Event planning in conjunction with clients.
  • Encourage repeat business through excellent customer service, strong relationship building with clients, and timely handling of all inquiries.
  • Ability to balance big picture and detail-oriented thinking in all stages of event sales, planning, and production.
  • Exceptional communication skills to speak with clients, identify their needs, and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • People skills needed to staff events and coordinate activities.
  • Management and organizational skills needed to oversee and manage event details: staffing, set-up, catering, décor, etc.
  • Timely and accurate reporting to Executive Director and other stakeholders.

Preferred Skills:

Experience, Requirements & Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of significant work experience in hospitality or as an events planner or organizer.
  • Solid references and portfolio of previously managed events.
  • Time management, prioritization and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Sales skills and an aptitude for building productive business relationships.
  • Degree in hospitality management, business administration or similar field preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, QuickBooks and Salesforce software systems.


The Scarab Club is a non‐profit organization of and for artists, arts lovers and art supporters, housed in a nationally preserved historic building built in 1928 in the heart of Midtown Detroit’s Arts Center. Since its founding in 1907, the Scarab Club has been a driving force in the region’s arts and cultural community and is proud to serve as a cultural stimulant for artistic diversity in the 21st century. Past members, associates, and beam signatories have included (among many other leading 20th century figures in the arts) Diego Rivera, John Sloan, Marcel Duchamp, George Grosz, Gilda Snowden and Henry Ewald. The Club offers a vast array of arts and cultural events, programming, and experiences; including exhibitions, lectures, sketch sessions, festivals and parties, chamber and blues music concerts, poetry readings and a broad range of social events. The building is a premier venue in Detroit for private parties and weddings, and the Club has also for decades managed working artist studios that endure to this day. The Scarab Club is supported in part by awards from the Kresge Foundation, Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, Fred A. and Barbara M.
