Job Description:

Summary

We seek an energetic, driven, and creative full-time team member to support the work of the DSO’s Communications Department.

The Coordinator will assist the Communications Department in promoting the DSO to both external and internal audiences. The Coordinator will work closely with the Public Relations Manager to support and execute email campaigns and newsletters, assist in press and media relations work, and collaborate in the production of printed program books and other publications.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate scheduling, formatting, and sending of DSO email campaigns as assigned, including template layout, edits, routing and approvals, and list loading.
  • Utilize Tessitura to create lists of target audiences for relevant email messages while adhering to industry best practices.
  • Work with the Public Relations Manager to develop media coverage strategies for full scope of DSO presentations and activities.
  • Assist in press and media opportunity logistics – including writing press releases, pitching stories, coordinating interviews and appearances, and acting as a DSO representative while liaising with press.
  • Work with Public Relations Manager to collaborate in the production of the DSO’s program notes magazine, Performance, as well as other printed program books and publications as assigned.
  • Assist Communications department with special projects planning and other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills:

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, marketing, journalism, or related field preferred; or music degree with comparable work or internship experience in an office setting
  • Excellent editing, writing, and proofreading ability required
  • Experience with email marketing service (e.g. WordFly, Constant Contact, Mailchimp, etc.) preferred
  • Basic knowledge of HTML coding preferred
  • Basic graphic design skills (especially experience with Adobe Creative Suite or similar products) a plus
  • Basic knowledge of Tessitura a plus
  • Knowledge of classical music and the symphony orchestra a plus
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and administrative skills and the ability to prioritize tasks, meet multiple deadlines, and work independently
  • Ability to operate in a PC network environment and experience with desktop publishing and other computer applications necessary
