From the Executive Director

Dear CultureSource Members,

The array of fantastic national conferences coming to Detroit this fall includes convenient opportunities for us to learn and network without paying for airfare and hotels. While they're not exclusively about the arts or creativity, they offer important and actionable ideas for us to work differently. So, get out your fall planning calendars and mark off these dates.

Gehl Institute: Public x Design, September 23-25
When I worked in the visual arts, I relied on the Gehl Institute's robust research about public life to inform our strategies for audience and community engagement. As you think about your relevance to the communities outside of your office, theater, or gallery doors, Gehl offers great insights on making equity- and inclusion-focused connections.

CityLab 2018, October 28-30
CityLab is my go-to website for news and features about innovations in creating a better urban life for everyone. Their fall conference, which was in Paris last year, will specifically have a thread of solving and preventing inequity among residents while building a future that's for everyone.

Race Forward: Facing Race, November 8-10
Various CultureSource staff members have participated in Race Forward's amazing racial equity trainings in New York City and Washington, D.C., and we're all thrilled their 2018 conference will be in Detroit so that more organizations can benefit from their expertise. Look out for special conference details from CultureSource as we are working with Race Forward to help make their work even more accessible to our members.

And even if you can't register for these, reach out to conference speakers and panelists and ask for one-on-one meetings while people are in the area. It's just as important to expose them to Michigan's culture outside of conference room walls.

Have fun this fall,
